These diseases cause alveolar bone loss and tooth decay, and to this day, it is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.

Periodontics 

Periodontics is a dental specialty that involves the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of teeth or their surrounding tissues, and the maintenance of the health, function, and beauty of these structures and tissues. Supporting tissues are known as periodontium, which includes the bone of the gums, the alveolar bone, the cementum, and the periodontal ligament.
