Another concern is that the benefits of public health interventions to reduce the incidence, morbidity and mortality of skin diseases may be underestimated. Therefore, in a developing country like India, there is a need for more studies on white spots. 

Against this background, a study was conducted at a private medical college in Mangalore, South India, to find out the nature and severity of vitiligo among medical students and to link them to various social factors.
