The scope of the journal includes case series case reports in Otolaryngology, clinical images and letters. Editors of otolaryngology and related topics including otology, laryngology, rhinology, speech science, and head and neck surgery.

About this Journal

Case Reports in Otolaryngology is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes case reports and case series in all areas of otolaryngology, including head and neck surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, maxillofacial surgery, and pediatric otolaryngology.




Aims and scope

case reports in Otolaryngology, a companion title of the American Journal of Otolaryngology, is an open-access journal dedicated to publishing case reports in all areas of adult and pediatric otolaryngology. Accepted case reports must be authentic, comprehensible, educational and of interest to ontology, trainees and researchers in ontology, rhinology, laryngology, head and neck surgery, facial plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery.


All submitted case reports are reviewed by editors and external reviewers. If accepted for publication, authors are notified of the decision and requested to pay an article processing fee.


The Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery welcomes well-described case reports that include:


  • Reported or unusual side effects or drug-related adverse effects

  • nexpected or unusual presentation of disease

  • New comorbidities or changes in disease process

  • Presentation, diagnosis and/or management of new and emerging diseases

  • Unexpected relationships between diseases or symptoms

  • Unexpected events during patient care or treatment

  • Findings that shed new light on the potential pathogenesis of a disease or adverse effect


Case reports submitted to the Journal of Otolaryngology Case Reports - Head and Neck Surgery should have clinical knowledge and educational value or highlight the need to change clinical practice or diagnostic/symptomatic approaches. The journal will not consider case reports describing preventive or therapeutic interventions, as these generally require stronger evidence.


Authors are encouraged to describe the rarity or unusualness of the case report as well as its academic and/or scientific merit in the covering letter when submitting the manuscript.
